Tuberculosis Culture and Sensitivity Test for Body Fluid

The AFB / Ziehl-Neelsen (Z-N) Culture & Sensitivity, Body Fluid, Conventional Test is a diagnostic test used to identify the presence of acid-fast bacilli, particularly Mycobacterium tuberculosis, in body fluid samples. Additionally, it includes a culture and sensitivity analysis to determine the antibiotic susceptibility of the detected bacilli.

    • The test is a crucial diagnostic tool for tuberculosis affecting body fluids, allowing for the identification of the causative agent and determination of effective antibiotic treatment.
    • Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in the context of the patient's medical history and clinical presentation.
    • Follow-up tests may be recommended for comprehensive evaluation and monitoring of tuberculosis treatment.

    Test Parameters

    1 - AFB Presence

The test identifies the presence of acid-fast bacilli in the body fluid sample, indicating possible tuberculosis infection.

    2 - Culture & Sensitivity

The culture is performed to isolate and grow the bacteria for further analysis, and sensitivity testing helps determine the most effective antibiotics for treatment.

    Sample Collection

Body fluid samples are collected from the patient following specific guidelines provided by the healthcare provider.

Collection Method : Body Fluid Collection

Turn Around Time : Results may take several weeks, as bacterial culture and sensitivity testing require time for proper analysis.

    Preparation

Patients may be instructed to follow specific guidelines for the collection of body fluid samples. Specific instructions will be provided by the healthcare provider.

    This Test is Used For

    • Diagnosis of tuberculosis affecting body fluids, determination of antibiotic susceptibility for targeted treatment

    Risks

The AFB / Z-N Culture & Sensitivity, Body Fluid, Conventional Test involves minimal risks associated with body fluid collection.

    • Patients may experience minor discomfort during body fluid collection, but the procedure is generally well-tolerated.
