    Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) Test

    ADA Blood Test

The Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) Test is a blood test that measures the levels of adenosine deaminase, an enzyme involved in the breakdown of purines. This test is commonly used to diagnose and monitor conditions such as tuberculosis and certain types of lymphomas.

    • The ADA Test is often used in the diagnosis of tuberculosis, where elevated ADA levels in pleural fluid may be indicative of the disease.
    • Certain types of lymphomas, particularly T-cell lymphomas, may also show increased ADA levels in the blood.
    • Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in the context of the patient's medical history and clinical presentation.

    Test Parameters

    1 - ADA Level

The test evaluates the concentration of adenosine deaminase in the blood, providing insights into immune system activity. Elevated levels may be indicative of infections, particularly tuberculosis, and certain lymphoid malignancies.

    Sample Collection

A blood sample is drawn from a vein, typically from the arm.

    Collection Method : Blood Collection

Turn Around Time : Results are usually available within a few days, allowing for timely assessment and interpretation.

    Preparation

No specific preparation is typically required for the ADA Test.
