    Urea

The Urea blood test measures the concentration of urea nitrogen in the blood, which is a byproduct of protein metabolism. This test is valuable in assessing kidney function and overall nitrogen balance in the body.

    • The Urea blood test is a key component of renal function assessments, providing insights into kidney health and nitrogen balance.
    • Results should be interpreted by a nephrologist or healthcare provider experienced in renal function evaluations.
    • Additional tests, such as creatinine measurements, may be recommended based on Urea levels for a comprehensive assessment of kidney function.

    Test Parameters

    1 - Urea

Quantification of urea nitrogen levels in the blood. Urea is formed in the liver and excreted by the kidneys. Abnormal levels may indicate issues with kidney function or protein metabolism.

    Sample Collection

A blood sample is collected from the patient for laboratory analysis of Urea levels.

    Collection Method : Venipuncture

Turn Around Time : Results are typically available within a specified period after the blood sample collection and Urea analysis are completed.

    Preparation

No specific preparation is usually required for the Urea blood test. However, fasting or specific dietary instructions may be recommended in certain cases. Follow any specific instructions provided by the healthcare provider.

    This Test is Used For

    • Assessment of kidney function
    • Evaluation of nitrogen balance

    Risks

The Urea blood test involves minimal risks associated with blood collection procedures.

    • Inform the healthcare provider about any medications or supplements being taken, as they may influence urea levels.
